Hey

I really love dancing and was wondering how easy it will be to find some kind of Japanese dance class once I'm out there?
Is it the sort of thing they have in every town like here in the UK or will I likely have to travel quite far?

Anyone else a dancer?

Hi, I'm not much of a dancer but sadly would like to be. I'm more of a movie buff (as you can probably guess by my avatar/name)

Did you ever see the Japanese movie "Shall we Dansu?" Not the horrible Richard Gere copy. It was wonderful! Before I start spouting on about movies I might go start another thread.

What kind of dance are you interested in? I'm fairly fascinated by the Japanese arts. I saw an Okinawan dance troupe when I was down there. It was just a local community troupe but they were still so captivating. The perfect measure of their moves was incredible.

I did a quick check for you and found this link to start you off: http://www.japan-guide.com/forum/quereadisplay.html?0+31573

Where you are will depend on what access you have to classes. If you're lucky there will be some kind of local troupe. Of course you have to be REALLY committed. There is a taiko drumming group in a nearby town and I was invited to join but you have to practice at least twice a week together plus private practice - more often if there is a concert coming up. A bit too heavy for me I'm afraid. I love to travel and relax too much.

Hey thanks for the link!

Not seen the Japanese version of the film - the Richard Gere one isn't that bad though believe me I've seen far worse! Anyway definitely start a movie thread help me bring this board back to life!

At the moment I do ballet, jazz, modern, tap bit of latin/ballroom. Would love to keep the ballet up though can do that on my own if I can't find any classes. I don't really know much about Japanese dance styles yet am finding it quite hard to get information on, ie books etc no of any by any chance? I have seen a youtube video of an Okinawan dance troupe though and yeh they were pretty amazing! Guess i'll have to wait and see what's available where I am when I get out there though like you said Cheesy
